My enjoyment of multiplayer games over the years has had an inverse relationship with the proliferation of voice chat.
hot take but the only upside to voice chat in games is that your hands are already busy, although that might be the voice dysphoria and bad hearing talking
even ignoring the bold bigotry going on in them, most gamers don't know how to handle mic volume and gain so they're like listening to a Scrub Jay that has built a nest in your headphone earcup
I used to raid WoW (Medivh Alliance top five for Sarth+3 and the first to do it with only prot warr tanks motherfuckers) and I had to use voice as MT but outside of nightmare scenarios like that text is fine. Almost anything you're doing, it's fine.
For my personal tastes:
Voice chat with a small group of people I know and I'm playing with = Wonderful, joyful, 10/10, love to play multiplayer this way.
Voice chat with literally any stranger = No thank you text is fine please look at what I'm typing do not make me speak.
