tabletop rpg obsessed, particularly lancer, icon, cain, the treacherous turn, eclipse phase, and pathfinder 2e. also a fan of the elder scrolls and star wars, an avid gamer and reader of webcomics, and when my brain cooperates, a hobbyist writer.

the urge to share my creations versus the horrifying ordeal of being perceived. fight of the millennium. anyway posts about my ocs are tagged with "mal's ocs" (minus the quotes). posts about or containing my writing are tagged with "mal's writing" (again, sans quotes). posts about my sci-fi setting specifically are tagged "the eating of names". i'd pin the latter two if they were actually among my top 15 most used tags lol. fair warning, my writing tends to be quite dark and deal with some heavy themes.

avatar is a much more humanoid depiction of my OC Arwen Tachht than is strictly accurate, made in this Picrew. (I have humanoidsonas for my non-humanoid OCs because I cannot draw them myself and must rely on dollmakers and such, hooray chronic pain)

Just played in a Princess Wing one-shot with @Fel-Temp-Reparatio as GM, it was a lot of fun! I played one of the premades, the Azure Cinderella build (highly mobile melee fighter), but put my own spin on it as far as the character attached to the mechanics goes. I played Serizawa Satoshi, a 17-year-old boy who had once become a Dark Heart but was rescued by a fellow Princess whom he now idolizes. He has since based his entire identity around being a Princess, and is very concerned about what that’ll mean when he gets too old to keep doing it.

We played the Yearning Wings ~Ignite Wing~ prewritten scenario, in which Satoshi was one of the two PCs who was childhood friends with Shinonome Mitsuki. That meant that his backstory came in very handy at the end, lol. It was a great time! The roleplaying structure felt exactly like an episode of an anime, and the combat was surprisingly tactical while still being short and sweet. PW is definitely meant for short, episodic play, which I was worried would make it feel too shallow, but I had a great time anyway. I think we played for about two and a half hours.

I definitely wish I’d had the brain space to make a custom build like the other players did, because I love theorycrafting and shit, but I’ve been having A Time™️ so I picked a premade to save myself some brain juice. I do worry that I contributed the least to the combat, but I think Satoshi’s relationship with Mitsuki made up for it. The other PCs had a bunch of nova turns (one of them nuked all four mobs in a single attack, leaving only the boss, it was amazing)whereas my most nova-ish turn was less damaging and more just costly to evade (which was what allowed it and subsequent attacks to hit at all, so that’s still good, just not Funny Damage Number Go Up). That’s what I get for using a premade build lol.

All in all, definitely something I’d be down to play again, but DEFINITELY with a custom-built character instead of a premade.

Tom Bloom (the guy behind ICON, Magnagothica Maleghast, and Kill Six Billion Demons, and one of the people behind Lancer) came out with another banger TTRPG like two days ago and I’m already obsessed. The itch.io page can do it more justice than I could, but in short: you play as psychic individuals called exorcists and you fight manifestations of human suffering called sins. It’s a narrative-first game, I think its dice mechanics take inspiration from Blades in the Dark? (I’ve never played Blades itself, and I always mix up FitD games with PbtA games lol, but it’s one of the two.) Anyway it’s awesome. It’s also VERY dark thematically, given that the players’ abilities and the enemies you fight both stem from psychological trauma. The GM section starts with a whole page or two dedicated to safety tools. I’ve already made two characters based on my OCs Arwen and Cchaiit and I’m concepting another based on my OC Kieran, plus another character original to CAIN. I’m obsessed. This game released a couple days ago and I’m obsessed.

I have so much hyperfixation brain rot for Lancer and The Elder Scrolls that for the past few days I’ve been sorely tempted to take Alee-Jei, the character from the Skyrim follower mod I’m working on, and make a Lancer build for them. The problem is, Alee-Jei is a conjurer, so they’d probably be a Hydra pilot (or some third-party drone-based frame), and I’m terrible at making drone builds…

…I wonder if there are any third-party HORUS drone/other-summon-like-mechanic frames. That seems like it’d be fitting for an obsessive, hubristic scholar of all things Daedric.

And I do have my paperback copy of Beacon now, so maybe I should build Alee-Jei in Beacon, too… Demonologist is right there lmao.
