In reality it is a sour orange pie, which is the ancestor of and very closely related to the key lime pie, but the first time I made it, it tasted to all of us just like a creamsicle, so we use that name when asking if people want some.
Today I experimented with bottled juice (the required sour oranges are out of season, and yes it requires "sour oranges" which are different than oranges which happen to be sour) and using the egg whites to make meringue.
I never made meringue before, I didn't realize it was so easy! Just patience is all you need.
We're using this as dessert for our bbq tomorrow, so I hope it's good!
