I worked in housing, where we handled mail for the students but also loaned out cooking tools and recreational stuff like billiard balls. We had to keep track of all this on a spreadsheet with the name and email of who had what, when it was checked out, etc.

Obviously as an example of how to fill this out, we used John Doe because a) everybody knows that's a fake name, b) the school was 80% men, so nobody thought to use Jane Doe.

Our email system was first initial, middle initial, first six letters of last name, so Trent Theodore Thomason would be ttthomas@school.edu and John Doe was jdoe@school.edu. Clearly this sucks.

While bored one night, I changed all the spreadsheets to use the fictitious student Edward X. Ample, thereby making his email address example@school.edu and his name "Edward Example" when spoken out loud.

This went unnoticed for weeks and then suddenly all my co-workers noticed. They loved it. For a couple days after nobody knew who did it until I fessed up. That was fun.

No idea if they still use those spreadsheets though
