One of my coworkers brought a box of these to the office. Her husband made an impulse purchase and said they weren't sweet enough for his liking.
It's a really cute miniature apple! Red with some green on the far side, it looks a bit like a tiny honeycrisp. It's decently crunchy but not as much as a honeycrisp, but the skin is nice and snappy, which makes up for it.
I was a little worried to try this one. I tend to think of small apples as being sour, and this one definitely wasn't sweet. The first taste is like a red delicious, a bit soapy, but then it really starts to open up as you chew. You definitely start to taste these warm spice notes, like cinnamon and nutmeg, that linger well after you swallow, and there is something extra about it, like a hidden tartness, that makes my mouth water a lot.
My tiny amount of research suggests this is a product of apple researchers in New Zealand, and the goal was to create this miniature apple as a child sized healthy snack! Cool!
They sold these by the box, with maybe like 15-20 inside. I don't know that I'd buy them myself but for an apple tasting party I would for sure.
