I've happened to live near the ends of several US highways and you usually get these cheeky signs of the distance to the city at the opposite end of the highway, but I'm not interested in those.

What I want to know is what's the largest distance between a city and its respective distance sign that is actually useful and not a tourism thing?

I have to imagine it'll be somewhere on a fairly deserted stretch in the middle of the country, possibly something on 80 heading into Chicago, 94 into Minneapolis, or 40 to Albuquerque. There's so little in the way that you could conceivably get one of these signs from states away
