Despite the best efforts of most teachers, the modern education system is designed almost entirely antithetically to the goal of educating.

I was homeschooled and it's surprising how many people resist knowing this. I've had people shout in my face when I say that the education system depresses natural learning and natural curiosity. I am not zealous enough to say that homeschooling is a panacea, but the way I did it, I and my siblings came out fervently curious and able to "just learn" in a way that I don't see most people able to do.

I've been thinking about this subject myself, because of how "intelligence" in a very narrow and almost nonsensical sense has come to be vaunted as a prized human attribute by a society that practically requires the mass of humanity to remain permanently muddled and therefore vulnerable to sales pitches and manipulation. ~Chara
