are they allowed to use the name Mickey, though? I thought he was just called Willie in that short so you can't use his later name.
the title card calls it a "Mickey Mouse Sound Cartoon" so i'm pretty sure calling him Mickey is fine. im no copyright expert so i could be wrong but from what i've read it's fine
Yeah, the character is called Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, so that's unavoidably Mickey Mouse. You just can't use "Mickey Mouse" to promote products, movies, etc. because that brand is still trademarked by Disney. You can't imply it's a Disney product, but you can use and name Mickey Mouse in a work that you're making.
