and less The Matrix, any DreamWorks movie, or Windows XP. 2600/HOPE, rather than DEF CON. TVs weren't silver yet. Portable DVD players weren't affordable yet, and you still rented tapes because they were cheaper. Be kind, rewind. "MP3 Player" meant Dell Jukebox, Creative Nomad, Rio; not iPod. Car stereos still had tape players. Light rail coming to your city was a celebrated and welcome addition, not fought through gritted teeth and red tape with your local NIMBY council.

Pentium II/III, beige Gateway boxes, Dell Dimensions, Thinkpad A22m, G3 Powerbooks, Quadra, Performa, Power Macintosh, iMac, OS 9, FireWire, NeXTStep, BeOS, Copeland/Rhapsody, SkyOS, AmigaOS 3/AROS, ReactOS, Windows 2000/ME/98, Word '97/2000, Internet Explorer 5, HTML 4.0, AOL 6.0, faster dial-up and (in some rare cases) early broadband; LiteStep Desktop Environment, KDE 2, PalmOS 5, PS2, Game Boy Advance, Enlightenment e17, are all Y2K. No matter that some of these things are still made, even today.

For silver tee-vee's, Web 2.0, cable modems, HDTVs, Firefox taking hold and the IE hatred, Slashdot, Digg, Nickelodeon Gooze, Pentium 4's and Nvidia DirectX 8 cards, XBOX 360 and Wii, the impending doom of suburban Americana, Spongebob, the Demented Cartoon Movie and most of the Flash and newgrounds/eBaums/fark meme subculture, see "The 2000s" or "post-Y2K".
