Finally have my laptop back in working order because I had to wait a week for a replacement battery to arrive!
on Wednesday of last week I brought my laptop in to our repair store to get the fans clean because they'd started to make a grinding noise. Granted, they stopped making the noise after I did some external dusting on the laptop and my cooling pad but I could tell the fans inside were fucking coated with dust fluff. My laptop is about five years old so I figured I was due for a maintenance cleaning.
I drop it off to the store, expect to have it back in an hour and when I come back the repair worker informs me that the battery was swelling. Not enough that I would have noticed it looking at my laptop, but sure enough that thing was no longer a safe battery.
Thank God I wanted to go in for a a fan cleaning before the battery situation got really dangerous??
Now fast forward a week later because the initial shipment was expected to be two to four business days, and then it went a few days over before the new battery arrived. I pick it up today and goodness gracious my laptop is so spick and span. Clean as FUCK.
So the moral of the story is probably: Don't overcharge your electronics!!
