thankfully didn't have to pry apart the thingy that houses the sensor, just needed to get into the guts with a can of compressed air. found some very helpful online tutorials and also one (1) jerk on reddit who was like "uh it's a deathadder essential, just buy a new one" NO!!!! this one has hello kitty on it and i am emotionally attached!!!!!!!!!

i totally wrecked1 the feet in the process of getting at the screws (i'm placing a hex on whoever decided we must hide the screws on all electronics2) so i ordered some new ones from (checks notes) FeetGlide.com

  1. i actually peeled them off really carefully but turns out the slightest bend to the corners makes the... mousefeel?... super scratchy!!!

  2. i know it's on purpose to discourage me from fixing it instead of buying a new one. planned obsolescence and whatnot. i will simply fix it anyway

maaaaan that sounds like it RULED!! i remember the ball because as a young'un i would turn the mouse upside down and roll it to try and navigate backwards. but i never uncaged the ball

yeahh....... i've had to deal with the fact that if you remove sanwa arcade buttons they're almost guaranteed to break... of course there's no good reason to remove them in an arcade unless broken, so it's not a problem unless you're a DIY person... :(

dang, those things look like they're MADE to pop 'em out and swap 'em! or just to like, hold in your hand. they're very pleasing objects. i hate that this isn't the case!
