This is a roguelike from Thomas Biskup, creator of one of my favorite roguelike ADOM (Ancient Domains of Mystery). It's intended as a throwback to old Rogue, and it's immediately really fun! It is almost as simple in execution as Rogue itself, but with the added benefit of a normal inventory menu. Instead of a different menu for each item type accessed by a different letter (q for 'quaff potion', z for 'zap wand') it just uses a universal inventory menu like most normal video games. If you're a purist you might scoff but it's fine. I like menus constructed from text characters i think they have a lot of (if you pardon the pun) character.

It's also a smaller scale game than Rogue I believe, and introduces some concepts from Rogue's descendants like item identification (possessing an item for a long enough time will reveal its properties) and ghosts (characters who die may appear in future runs as enemies).

Character creation is based on entering a name, gender, and type of guy, and the letters get turned into stats somehow. It's neat and encourages you not to just do what I do in ADOM and send Mina XVII out to fight the forces of Chaos.
