it is utterly astounding how much of my linkedin feed is sponsored posts from people pushing some new AI functionality aimed at helping people get jobs. and I get it, if your product is bullshit you need to head somewhere where people are looking for the Next Big Goddamn Thing and aren't able to ask too many questions so it's time to take it to linkedin where all the tired people are trying to represent themselves professionally.
listen, I think there are some parts of AI that are promising. I don't think it can or should be used to replace humans professionally in literally any capacity but if you're in a foreign country and trying to borrow a phone charger or get some more pillows for your hotel room maybe it's not so bad to have something that can do a very rough translation for you, enough to get by. these are little quality of life improvements I think we can all agree on being a net positive.
but by god I do not approve of linkedin's suggestions that I use an "AI generated resume template" (there are twenty seven million free resume templates on the internet) or "use AI to draft a message to the hiring manager" (can you imagine contacting the hiring manager for something directly and that having any positive impact on your chances). grow up.
