Top 2, or close to, non-fighting games you think more folks should play (and why)?

If I had to pick two, I’d probably say:

  1. Outrun 2SP. Everything about this game is just so wonderful. Amazing art with tons of colourful and beautiful locales and cars, unreasonably good music, engaging course design that takes perfect advantage of the driving physics, striking an incredible balance between approachable and technical while letting you maintain a visceral sense of speed and style at every level of play, and three different gameplay modes that appeal to different play styles and test different skills for even more replay value. I love this game so much, it’s unreal. Even if you don’t like racing games, you’ll probably like OutRun 2SP.

  2. .hack//G.U. Last Recode. I think the .hack games in general are awesome, in no small part thanks to the way they approach worldbuilding -- presenting the game as the player, in control of the main character, logging into their computer so they can play the game within the game that comprises the bulk of the story, gives space for the player to read forum posts, news articles and the like, naturally engaging with any lore or details about the world in a way that never feels like exposition dumping, even though it totally kind of is, in a way. All that plus a simple but fun combat system with flexible equipment customisation, engaging characters and a story with surprisingly complex things to say about the ways in which online spaces can affect the ways we perceive both ourselves and others, how corporate malice and/or incompetence can make these spaces actively harmful and dangerous, and what it means to truly connect with the people you care about. Definitely worth your time if you’re into action RPGs.
