i’m gonna keep it real, it was profoundly disappointing to see the news that the guy who burned down the kyoto animation studio got sentenced to death be met with celebration or “i’m glad the families of the victims got justice”
like yes, what that guy did was evil and it resulted in a horrific and tragic loss of human life and there should be consequences, but i don’t think that suddenly makes it acceptable for the state to kill people it deems criminal. it’s bad enough that the state can lock people up for indeterminate amounts of time
