There's one sad thing with old gaming reviews that bothers me. The unfortunate reality of the evolution of gaming consoles is the way it has affected the recognition of certain games, specifically within the NES library. A significant number of high-quality NES games, launched post-1992, coincided with the early releases on the SNES. This has led to a peculiar situation where these well-executed NES games, including titles such as Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, Duck Tales 2, Rescue Rangers 2, and The Flintstones: Surprise at Dinosaur Peak, have found themselves underrepresented in gaming magazine reviews. In some instances, the situation becomes even more baffling when the inferior Game Boy versions of these games receive more coverage and critique than their NES counterparts. A notable case is that of Zen: Intergalactic Ninja, where the Game Boy version has been widely reviewed and criticized for its repetitiveness, while the significantly better NES version is relatively unknown in contemporary sources, with barely three magazine reviews to its name.
