I just thought this would be a fun list idea and a way to celebrate the more fun and unique games of 2023 and to mention a good amount of cool games that some might not have heard of! Let me know in the comments if you learned of any new game from this list or if you enjoyed this list! The lesser know 2023 indie games are in mostly in part 2 3 and 4. I will put links to each part at the top and bottom of this post. There are some AAA games mainly in part 1 but it is mostly indie games.

-1. “Tears of the Kingdom”, tools-pretty much all the tools especially the combine items fuse and recall/rewind.

-2. “Backpack Hero” , turning inventory management RE4 style into a core gameplay combat mechanic for a rogue lite where your items given bonuses based on where your items are stored in your bag and how they combo with other nearby items in your bag

    1. “Viewfinder” - view the levels from multiple angles and capture part of the level and copy and paste parts of the level in other parts of the level. I tried the demo it was a cool puzzle game!

-4. “Cocoon” - I do wish the world mechanic was more unique and something you can enter any time but it’s a cool idea regardless, you carry around balls that power and change parts of the level and at certain parts you enter the ball which transports you to a new level

-5. “Chants of Sheenar” , a puzzle game where nobody speaks English and good bit of your puzzles are trying to work out what the people mean and what to do with that info, really enjoyed the demo myself and seems to have reviewed really well just like Cocoon did.

-6. “Hifi Rush”- Attacking to the beat to do extra damage is a great idea to add to DMC like combat, done in a good way where you can still do damage a good bit without always attacking on the beat but it will give you a bonus little damage boost

-7. “Shadows of Doubt” -its excellent case board mechanic where you can manually piece together any piece of info on your won board, it sounds small but if you try the game you really feel how much it changes the game and makes you feel like a real detective in a game for once

-8. “Turbo Overkill” -chainsaw legs, that should be more then enough to say but the chainsaw legs are delightful, they let you move super fast through levels since the chainsaw legs have mini jets on them and you can do a ton of melee damage without ever stop moving

-9 “Meet your Maker” -creating your own death trap levels while other players try to get through your levels, I think this is made by the Dead By Daylight devs or the original devs funnily enough. Not played the game but sounds like a fun unique gameplay loop.

-10. “Lies of P”, weapon customisation weapon system- also not played this game but from what I understand you can swap handles and blades from any weapon which changes weapons a bit,a Tears of the Kingdom weapon fuse little like version

-11. “Amnesia The Bunker” - its wind up light,I thought this would not change much but this simple change to infinite battery but the light only lasts a few seconds and needs to be wound up to light it which makes noise is a excellent way to remove the tedium of battery hunting while still keeping a lot of the stress and horror of limited light and arguably making it more scary

Quietneatopalooza. Lots of cool stuff in here that I still need to get to, along with games I have played and adore. I’m still calling Amnesia The Bunker my favorite game this year, teetering on buying the Steam version so I can dickaround on Deck and try the new masochism mode.
