Asking for a friend (I'm the friend).

Feeling like playing something like that but I've already played all the OoT-like Zelda titles, and hey, maybe I could pick something cool before the Steam Sale ends.

Haven't played it outside a demo but Tunic sounds right. It's not indie, but if emulation doesn't bother you, Crusader of Centy is a fabulous choice. The original Darksiders is far more Zelda than it may appear at a glance.

Played a bit of Tunic on gamepass, it was more soulslike and less Zelda-ish than I expected.

Oh yeah, there are like 2 really good Zelda styled topdown games for the Mega Drive, right? I do like emulation, but I wanna play those once I get my retro corner together and get my hands on a everdrive.

Heard Darksiders was pretty good but I must confess the edgy aesthetics looks boring to me. But I definitely can see myself trying it someday!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Really liked the first one, even considering it was really derivative and combat kinda sucked. Had no idea it released on Steam, but oof 70 BR bucks, definitely waiting for a bigger discount in the future

Finished it a few months ago, combat was kinda repetitive but what a charming little game it was. I was going to get the true ending but got bored of trying to 100% it and forgot to keep on playing :p

If we're going into series that aren't necessarily indie then I guess Okami and Mystical Ninja starring Goemon.
Also there was that Kena bridge of spirits game recently.
Come to think of it there's relatively few 3D games adopting this iconic formula. It's probably more complicated to do than it looks.

Now that I think of it, maybe some Ys games kinda qualify. VIII and IX though they are almost more of a musô adventure in how hackey they get. But there are some dungeon-ey structures and exploration.
