Despite being in the scene for a loong time both professionally and privately, I have never considered using ASL for stoplight as a sub. For nonverbal scenes the closest I got was holding on to something (and dropping it for the “safeword”) but like with the yellow/red issue, I would find myself holding on bc i was supposed to be holding onto it and forgetting it’s purpose.

I especially love how both green and yellow only require hand and wrist movement. Thank you for this! It will definitely be put to use.

I mostly see the 'domming as performance/narrative' laid bare in hypnosis, but it IS true for scenes in general. I'm glad someone said it. :3

Also... yea, now that I think about it, the stoplight system is -great- for being... well, safer safewords. Especially as someone who grew up kinda desperate for attention, and never really undid the "boundaries a bit too porous, a bit too trusting" part.

I only red if someone's at risk of, like, -seriously- hurting me, emotionally or otherwise (which is REALLY rare in scene), and in practice that's meant yellow is my -actual- stop button.
