This one's kind of a gimme this week, but it's Janelle Monáe's new cut "Waterslide", a sun-drenched paean to languorous, joyful, all-inclusive summertime horniness.

I've already hamstrung myself in this game, because shit, how do I know whether other people like a song? hubris! but I have to answer, that's the rules that I just made up, so this time let's say Hiss Golden Messenger's "Sanctuary", an aching plea for solidarity in our post-Trump reality.

One piece I read likened British band Witch Fever to "L7 meets doom metal" and that's not wrong (though arguably it's a little limiting). Angry, political, confrontational, queer, and heavy. "In Birth" seems like as good a starting point as any.
