Last night I dreamed that I was watching a trailer, on youtube, for Vampire Survivors 2. I've never played Vampire Survivors and I'm not sure I've ever even seen more than a few seconds of gameplay.

It's already pretty boring to dream about watching a videogame trailer, but on top of that the main thing I noticed about the trailer was how the camera worked.

The sequel was a sci-fi 3D bullet hell game, which didn't appear to have anything obviously vampire-related in it. The player controlled some kind of ship or mech, with an over-the-shoulder first-person camera. As the ship moved faster and/or the overall action got more hectic, the camera would pull back, and as the distance between the view and the ship increased, so would the elasticity of the camera's tether, so it had some lag in swinging around to the same angle as the ship, etc. When things got busy enough on screen, the camera would pull up out of the plane entirely to show the arena as a more traditional 2D bullet hell, and when enough enemies were cleared it would drop back down to follow the player's ship again.

In the dream this seemed pretty cool, but on waking consideration, I feel like it would be tough to have a single control scheme that felt good in both OTS and 2D arena views.
