I listen to a few podcasts. More, actually, than I think I do. One I especially like History of English Podcast, which is about the language. Episode 163 just came out, and we're up to the 1580's and William Shakespeare has just been introduced as a character in the story. The show is a nice blend of telling stories about historical events as they relate to the language, examples of how the language was used at the time in the story the episode relates to, and deep dives into the influences, physiological structures, and technological influences on how the language developed over time.

The current episode is one of the ones that looks at how weird spelling is, how it will probably always be weird, and how straddling the line between prescriptivism and descriptivism (without actually discussing those terms or their meanings) is the way the history of english has actually gone.
