Got home at like 11 last night and felt compelled to try installing a Gemini server after reading about them yesterday.
At first I thought that this would be exactly the sort of job NearlyFreeSpeech.net would be good for, running a teeny tiny web server. But after figuring out how to get their FreeBSD server to run Agate, I ran into the issue that: they don't let you do port forwarding. It's just web servers over there.
So it's getting on into the wee hours of the morning, and I give up and run the Windows version on my little media center computer, and it works really really easily. I've got the server pointed at a folder in Dropbox, so I can just update the text files from anywhere and the Gemini site updates. I don't have anything on there yet except a quote from We Know The Devil, but it works!
Now I just need to figure out how to make the free tier of Cloudflare do Dynamic DNS so I can keep this running locally. And then, ya know, write something worth reading.
