hey dang uhhhh this remake is legit
like, i remember really enjoying star ocean 2 on PS1 despite its localization, but i completely forgot how like.... legible it is still?? it has so many Interesting Things about how it's constructed like...a ridiculous amount of skills to teach characters like crafting and alchemy and fishing and summoning a giant bunny to ride and pickpocketing and like
there's a lot of quality of life stuff done to this version of the game that make it feel extremely smooth to just... pick up & start poking at all its systems. combat has been totally overhauled & now i can just, pick up some backstab skills for rena & between the procs to instantly teleport behind enemies & the new perfect dodge system i feel like a total badass that doesn't even need to be casting spells. but i can still heal if i'd like to.
the new character art is the best the game's looked, and i extremely vibe with the chunky pixel art sprites on realtime 3d backgrounds that capture the aesthetic of that era of pre-rendered backgrounds. it's just really fun. i love this era of star ocean (2 & 3, mostly)
