Recently had a student who did not know how to save their work. They had worked exclusively in Google Docs through high school and they knew how to export to PDF, but kept losing work because someone had told them to try "turning off wifi to keep from being distracted" while writing papers and they were closing the tab before reconnecting to wifi.

i'm 24 and i do this but i also used to daily a laptop with no battery and an extremely loose power connector
i do it in programs that I'm pretty sure don't even acknowledge the keypresses to do anything (Logseq)
i'm 32 so i'm pretty sure i'm not the youths but boy oh boy do i smash that save button constantly, even if i'm working in obsidian or something where it's autosaved basically every keystroke
for some reason, though, i've become lax about Saving My Game. that's where i've gotten complacent. even with retro games where i should know better sometimes i make terrible mistakes lmao
I have vim set to save every time it loses focus and yet i still bang out :w compulsively.
Nah. Modern terminals have a scroll bar, so you don’t need to use Ctrl-S to freeze the output. Honestly I don’t miss the dialup days.

(It's the shortcut to save your work in most applications. Cmd-S for Mac users)

It's not the experience of a Median Youth that I have observed, but it's usually the outliers that chill one's blood the coldest.
I should clarify: This student knows how to save their work now. I wasn't going to leave this state of affairs unaddressed!
