Oh, can I be friends with some of the Ixalan dinosaurs? They're intelligent enough, and while Dominaria's kobolds are a little.... unlike me, I could probably kin a bit with dinosaurs. Pantlaza or Gishath for a specific dinosaur! We would just creature-out for a while.
If it had to be someone more traditional... well, Bloomburrow has more animal critters that could make companions. Though, I don't know much about them as characters... hm.

My beloved... simply in it for the progress, a true leader, and reasonable to the whims of those around him. He just wants to forge for fuck's sake.
