I absolutely loved this. It's the story of a pop-up fake tavern created solely to lure in a government official to kill him. The first half of the movie sets up all of these random characters in the tavern. Many of them are suspicious and the movie does a good job of making you wonder who will be relevant to the assassination attempt. The second half is tense in the way that a heist movie is, culminating in a fantastic final action scene.
The action is different than more contemporary martial arts or wuxia movies. But I think that's normal. For what you lose in intricate and planned movement and camera angles and flashy choreography, you gain in realism and extended action shots. You'll get these wide-angle fight scenes that go on for 20-30 seconds where 10 people are all fighting in one room. It's extremely impressive!
If I had one criticism it would be that when the fight scenes move outside, they're in a quarry. Old tokusatsu shows like Kamen Rider or Super Sentai would do the same thing. It's easy to film at these locations and the focus is 100% on the characters since the background is so neutral. The problem is that it's an environment that strips the characters of the fun moves they did inside the tavern. There's no jumping on tables, flying between the first and second story, throwing bottles of wine, etc. The fight scenes outside are still good, just not AS good as the ones indoors.
I think this is definitely worth a watch!
