I guess the easiest answer really is just, money ;; So long as the sites get their ad revenue, it doesn't really matter what's in the site itself, if it can even be used. Sucks.
This post encouraged me to finally change my phone to use firefox and adblock on my phone like I changed my computer a while back. Already feels better.
I was actually thinking something very similar this weekend while browsing for recipes. It's one reason I've gone back to recipe books & transcribing recipes for my files. For the longest time I had just been saving recipes I liked in my bookmarks folder, but even good sites are getting way bogged down any more.
As to why they're doing it, the only reasons I can think of is sloppy SEO and trying to wring out every possible advertising cent.
