I remember when I went to salt lake comic con after many years of furry cons and the entire event just felt so sterile to me. The celebrity zoo, the funko pop walls, etc. The big difference it seems is that furries are gathering to celebrate each other.
Yeah I'm basically going because "eh fuck it, why not" and because I'm curious about the dealers den and artist alley! There's a panel on Okinawan music which I'm interested in and a meetup for Chainsaw Man cosplayers that Sammie might like me to take photos of. So I think my expectations are kind of reasonable.

You should go! I had fun at salt lake comic con, it just wasn't the same. I feel kind of the same way about calling furry cons "cons" as I do about calling the furry fandom a "fandom".
I've slowly grown out of wanting to go anime cons as I've gotten older. I think part of the appeal is how much you're into the shows. I don't watch or keep up as much as I use to so there's not a lot of panels that interest me because I haven't seen the show they want to discuss.
The other thing for me really is the dealer's room isn't as special as it use to be. When you go to a few, especially rotating between AWA and Animazement that we have in the past, you see the EXACT same vendors selling the EXACT same merchandise. And most of it is the same stuff you could buy yourself for less than what they are trying to sell. When I first started going it was neat because you saw just so much random stuff and it was a lot of things you couldn't get. Now you go and it's just "oh yeah there's X both again" and it just takes away a lot of the appeal.
Yeah, since I haven't gone in a decade I'm excited to see what's new and what's changed. But definitely with the rise of online shopping it's tough to imagine buying anything there that I couldn't find with relative ease online.
Thankfully I'm up to date on a couple of good shows since me and Sammie both watch anime together :)
