The minifigs look AWFUL. They have that "western artist trying to draw anime-style but failing" that you often saw in the mid-2000s. I don't find it charming, I find it off-putting and very unattractive.
The mechs are gangly and so minimally detailed. And every one of them has the pilot standing in this exposed front platform which just looks bizarre.
This is the first time I've ever heard of that set, so, I certainly don't have the nostalgia :u
I remember these, oh gosh-
I specifically remember the guy with green hair, he's probably somewhere in one of the big tub of lego I own.
i was like- completely unaware of anime, and i found the art associated with it pretty bad and obviously not anime.
i was obsessed with exoforce at the time becuase at that point this was the closest lego got to making big fighting robots that i dearly wanted lol
i have nostalgia but my passion for this theme didnt last. theres a lot left to be desired as an adult
The wild thing is that Monkie Kid has completely knocks the concept out of the water. Stylish animation plus cool looking mechs, vehicles, and designs. Like to the point where it's not just a good "Lego version" of the concept, but it's independently good.
I was always incredibly confused seeing those faces in the lego bins at my friend's house.
Honestly when I see them my first thought goes to that Lego Let's Go music video that used them for the singer since that was my first exposure before learning what an Exoforce was proper lol
