Born to an enclave of liir'aalu who, like many others, decided to leave their home planet of Avuura and explore the wider universe (her particular family unit taking up residence on the Cherry Tree research station), Hralia took an interest in engineering which lead to her finding a job on the frontier world of Pronova via nonhuman worker exchange program.
Though quick-thinking, resourceful, and unfailingly diligent in her duties, Hralia can be somewhat touchy and high-strung; this is because she's something of a self-made outcast among the normally-communal liir'aalu on account of her status as one of the 'Arava', or "the silenced ones", survivors of a debilitating upper respiratory illness among her species that does damage to the tissue of the flutelike-horns they use to vocalize. Though treated with utmost care and compassion by their brethren, Arava are often nevertheless looked upon with pity and a sense of 'loss' owing to the damage the disease can do and the perception that it robs them of their voices—something that can be compensated for with prosthesis, in Hralia's case.
