I tried out the demo for Turbo Overkill and it just did not land for me. Nothing about it was particularly bad or poorly done, is the thing. It felt good to play, nothing about it was particularly offputting (although I'm a bit weary of the Blood Dragon Neon 80s Future-Past look). It was perfectly serviceable. But I was just bored by it even if I recognize why it has appeal to others.

On a similar note I played another demo for 3D platformer that I saw recommended highly in a Twitch chat for a person playing Psuedoregalia. "If you like Pseudoregalia you'll like Lunistice". I checked out the demo and had the same issue as I had with Turbo Overkill. Nothing about the game is done particularly poorly. Looks great, sounds great. Really good controls too. But it offered me nothing to hook onto.

I can't quantify how I feel about those games in any other way than "I'd rather play a frustrating game that gives me something to do than a polished game that gives me nothing to do". Neither game seems bad, but neither of them grabbed me. Maybe I'm being uncharitable and those games really come into their own after where the demos leave off.

I uninstalled both demos and started a playthrough of Glover for the N64 which I just hit the credits on. I would not call that game good. It has cool ideas, but it can be extremely frustrating. Even by the end of the game I kept getting the A and B buttons' functions mixed up. However, it continuously gives me something new to chew on and get good at, and there's something to be said about a game whose controls you have to wrangle into submission to play adequately. In short, I had fun with it, even if by most accounts, and fair enough accounts at that, it's a 'bad game'.
