i have absolutely no idea who gear patrol are; they may ruin the site; but i strongly suspect they'll just add a dozen more banner ads and then keep running it forever and i hope that's how it plays out.

AFAIK Gear Patrol is a gear enthusiast group. They post different types of gears (like worm gears, helical gears, etc) and their uses. Additionally, whenever someone makes a bad gear post they get "gear ratioed".
I hope the years of content stay up but yeah i don't think I've ever heard of GP, and it's a shame the staff they lost in this whole mess.
