@bootjack

please go yell at them to do the right thing for once over here

this is a direct line to yell at the government, on a real government website, and not a dumb third party online petition site that accomplishes nothing but inbox spam.1 this is the real deal and you can help make a difference by commenting! you don't even have to give them any information if you select the option to comment anonymously.2

there is no reason not to yell at the government about this if you are a US resident and would like people to not go to jail over a plant. at the time of this writing over 6,000 comments have been published overwhelmingly in favor of legalization3 and this is only a week into a 60 day period for commenting.

yelling at the government is free and this is a direct way to have your voice be heard, so yell at them today and let them know where you stand!

  1. look i know we have all made the mistake of being a dumb, well-intentioned teenager signing that change dot org petition in high school and still getting political spam emails decades later. thankfully, you don't have to worry about that here!

  2. and if you do choose to include your name, that is literally the ONLY required information. you do not have to include anything else - no address, no phone number, no email address if you don't want to! you don't even have to include the state you live in.

  3. to give you an idea of how overwhelming that favor is, the percentage of commenters in favor of keeping weed illegal is a measly 3%. the war on drugs is a loser's game and everyone knows it lol

Wondering what to say? This might help…

Try including:
-> a greeting
-> “Thesis” (for me, I support this change in scheduling, and urge full decriminalization)
-> personal connection/experiences (for me, living in a legal state and seeing weed be safe and effective on certain health issues)
-> helpful statistics (my personal experience is supported by [list study])
-> social/historical impacts (talking about past federal possession charges/racilization of weed)
-> a goodbye (I said, thank your for reading)

these are all excellent points and a good starting place for anyone unsure of what to write, thank you!

here are some points i put in my own comment that others may want to use as well - mostly with a focus on debunking common lies, such as the one that legal weed will destroy america's children lol

-> the staggering amounts of tax revenue brought in by cannabis sales post-legalization and what societal benefits they helped fund in your respective state (if living in a legal state), but even if you don't live in a legal state it's easy to look up what cannabis taxes help fund in other states. legal states rake in huge amounts of taxes from weed, washington and colorado being the oldest examples

-> the fact that youth usage of cannabis reduced significantly post-legalization in states that have legalized (since many anti-weed pearl-clutchers love claiming that legal weed makes access easier for children which is a load of bullshit to the core - unregulated black markets are what makes weed more accessible to minors, not the other way around!). again, washington and colorado are the oldest examples

-> how medical marijuana programs reduce the usage of addicting and deadly opioids as a safer form of pain management, not to mention all the benefits it has for disabled veterans, cancer patients, epileptic people, etc etc etc. some states have had medical marijuana programs for 30 years now!

-> how cannabis has claimed 0 lives while alcohol and tobacco claim hundreds of thousands each year

there are definitely more and i could literally write a novel about advocating for legalization, but should you want a springboard for more things to write, norml.org and mpp.org are both fantastic resources for education, research, and cannabis advocacy!
