I overheard someone in the club world we were in last night saying something like "fuck optimization, don't bother" and I noticed I was seeing their impostor so I figured I would just check and see what their avatar was actually like.

i literally still think vrchat should implement a feature where someone's nameplate actively tells you when they can't see your avatar for performance reasons.

the psychological effect of seeing "this user can't see you bc they're hiding poor and below" above every other person's head would drive people to do something.

This is so brilliant, so insidious, and so much more peaceful! I spend a lot of time at events, and so I complain about performance a lot, and my preferred solution (add performance requirements in group instances), while great for my shriveled, petty heart, will just turn people away. And, for every 10 crude and careless jerks who think they're the center of the world, there's one genuinely nice person who just doesn't know any better or understand computer-y stuff.
