The Bajaj boat is a fusion between a Bajaj and a lil submarine thingy The Cidomo boat was updated from this drawing based on class feedback. I like replacing wheels with a lifebuoy. This is the main transportation seen in the book as it's the family boat! The final design has whimsical paintings and the handprints of the family that own it cuz they had fun decorating it. Next is the Pedati boat. A pedati is a transport vehicle usually (but not always!) pulled by oxen. This design fuses the pedati with a jukung, an Indonesian outrigger canoe. And lastly we have the becak boat! Since the typical becak is bike-based, I imagine its boat variant to work kind of like a swan boat. The base is inspired by Vietnamese coracle boats. While researching small boats I found a pic of a guy with a small circular boat and brought the handle over to the becak boat as a steering mechanism.

I'm not the most intense concept artist, but it was fun dipping my toes into that mindset for this book 🤓
