I see cohost seems to have fixed the "I have to log in every time I check the site" issue, at least to some extent. That's good.
I'm currently giving Mastodon a shake, and there's a lot that I like about it. I should probably try to spend more time here too.

unless i’m missing something after a few years of trying, it’s really hard to find people on mastodon. more like finding people by email because you need the instance as well as the username.
That's a major issue. It's made somewhat easier if they have twitter accounts and advertise their mastodon accounts in some fashion - I was able to get mastodon addresses for a lot of people I follow on the bird site by using edifinder, movetodon, and debirdify. They return a good bit of overlap but each picked up at least one person the other two missed.
also worth noting, while i interacted with eugen a good bit years ago and he seems ok in his motives and ethics, but i really like the cohost manifesto
I haven't read it yet; I just went ahead and created an account as several friends have and I've started getting links to cohost posts in my discord DMs. xD
