i can't tell if that is

  1. objectively true; gay books are just better written. a coincidence;
  2. because i exclusively buy gay books after intentionally seeking 'good gay books', whereas i find straight books when randomly browsing in libraries;
  3. gay books are meant for slightly older audience or something, so the quality is Better;
  4. authors writing gay books Have Something To Say; or
  5. having gay characters in a book immediately overshadows whatever i dislike about it

is this a universal experience?

imo, a good author must be empathetic and emotionally complex / mature, in order to write compelling characters. simply embracing gayness requires a certain amount of empathy from the author that sadly not everyone has reached at this point, so when a book is gay, it's more likely to have a competent author than a book which isn't gay

a solid plan, BUT you're already a good game dev! so you're legally allowed to do whatever you want (including those explicitly queer games c;)

waah to be honest i used to read a ton but lately it's like... one book every 100 years, so my head is empty ~ o~ i've been meaning to read more though, so i will let you know if i come across any gems c:

SO TRUE!! i once was reading a book which is literally a work of art ('the night circus' by erin morgenstern) and i was like man. this book is so good. and then there was a queer character literally just in the book as a side character it's so good
