Unpopular food opinion nobody asked for and probably nobody will like: avocados are the most heinously overrated food ever. Maybe it's just that I've never lived in the one small area of the US where you can get them fresh enough to be "properly" good, but plenty of people even further from there than me seem to love it and I genuinely do not understand why
-
Unappealing visually - they look like xenomorph eggs on the outside and the inside looks like neon Play-doh, and then if you spread it on something or make guacamole it looks like I walked onto the set of a 90's Nickelodeon game show at the wrong moment and got slime all over my plate
-
Unappealing texture - somehow avocados are the opposite of a non-Newtonian fluid; they're solid at a gentle touch but apply the barest pressure and it just squishes, it's not creamy like butter and anyone who ever says so is a liar
-
Unappealing flavor - it tastes mostly like nothing, mixed with the vague taste of disappointment and despair at the lack of a primary flavor, and as a result the only times I've ever liked it have been when a tiny amount is mixed into other things that taste better in small enough pieces that it's never the primary thing on my tongue
-
Unappealing to use - it's so hard to tell how ripe one is going to be until you open it, and I swear they have maybe a two-hour window between being unripe and having gone bad, and that's not even considering how notoriously they don't keep once you open them
This is half a shitpost, yeah, but it's also just genuinely a vent about how little I understand why people like these demon fruits. I guess I don't really care if they do, but I just do NOT get it.
