i wanted to try out the new version of Beogh the orc god that's currently in trunk, so i started a type of character i don't do often - a Delver, a gimmick class that gives you a head start on skills and useful items, but starts you off five dungeon levels down. your task is to use those resources and rush to find the stairs up to easier dungeon levels before you're killed, because level 1 characters have like no hp whatsoever.
my first attempt ended with almost all of floor 5 explored and no stairs up, only seven hundred scorpions killing me forever. the second try, however... i found that weapon up there. it's like the perfect Delver weapon. rapiers are a real good short blade-class weapon, and are therefore still accurate even with low weapon skill. on top of that it's maximally enchanted anyway, so both accuracy and damage will blow away most low-to-middlin foes in the game, and if it doesn't - those guys don't usually resist poison, so you can poke them once and run away while they lose whatever sliver of health is left. completely buckwild. thank you crawl.
