i genuinely don't jive well with the rapid franchising of final fantasy vii, is the thing. the speed with which square enix took to trying to profit off it more than any other final fantasy game to date is enough to put me off of any possible intrigue that could be found in any supplementary material

no im so so so in the same boat i have so much dislove for anything beyond the og ff7 lol...i feel like alot of the fleshing out is detrimental to just what made 7 good. the only thing i could think of that maybe was okay was just who zack was but- even crisis core has all sorts of just stuff that puts me off..
thank fucking god someone gets it.... and even with zack i think most of the intrigue is in the fact that zack is defined entirely through how he was projected onto cloud and the fragments of personality cloud inherited from him, and how aerith definitely projected her lost love for zack onto cloud. that's what makes zack cool to me
kinda makes me think of how square enix tried to make FFXIII a big franchise thing from the start and it crashed and burned immediately lmao
