tabletop games and nonsense

  • he/him

My local Battletech group did the Worldwide Event today, and I was on the Capellan side. Going into this I was running on about five hours of sleep both last night and the night before. The game itself was mostly fine, we destroyed the mech gantries by turn 3. But one of the guys on the Clan time was being really obnoxious, yelling "Cheaters!" and "Dirty Capellans!" every chance he got, talking shit about how he was going to one shot one of our mechs with an iHML, and when we finished wrecking the three gantries, he sarcastically said "Congrats, you destroyed an immobile target". He's kind of a contrarian and generally annoying, but it felt like he was in rare form tonight.

Between the tiredness and him being like that, I wanted to punch him really hard directly in the middle of his face, but instead I made excuses and left. I had pointed out a couple turns ago that, since we'd destroyed our objectives and the clanners got points for killing our mechs but not killing mechs that retreated, my team's best move was a fighting withdrawal to pull off the field victorious. My teammates, wanting to play rather than win, ignored this.

Wasn't a fun afternoon, but given how I was feeling, I'm gonna call "didn't yell at or assault anyone" a win.
