Tonight was Ghibli Movie Night in Anime Club. We watched The Cat Returns, and Nausicaa.
The Cat Returns was really charming and cute. It felt like a movie I'd have watched as a 9 year old and LOVED. Nothing blowing me away, but very fun.
Nausicaa made me almost sob and it's prolly one of the best movies I've ever seen lol

The entire movie of Nausicaa is a fantastic *little teaser trailer* for the whole graphic novel epic.
The Nausicaä manga is truly next level, particularly since it is drawn with such a meticulous storyboarding energy. Anyone familiar with the Ghibli house style can feel a luxurious cinematic experience jump right off the page, with a depth of characterization and worldbuilding that a feature-length film simply doesn't allow in its runtime. I've misremembered black-and-white pages from the manga as fully-animated scenes in color multiple times. An undeniable all-timer.
Nausicaa really was the film to cement Miyazaki's directorial style, I think
