i tried to watch the xbox thing because i sort of want to see some starfield but immediately took huge frenzy damage from the xbox lady stopping after the first three trailers to stare into the camera and tell me how games are the important medium and i’m the most important part of gaming.

no choice now but to throw my pc in the lake and move to a convent

to be a hater for a moment:

everything cool they showed has been in the last 2+ years of no man’s sky updates, but no one not already playing that game cares. shallow in the same ways, cool in the same way (but less cool since NMS has been eating their lunch for most of this game’s dev cycle).

everything they showed that wasn’t cribbing from no man’s sky was the same janky, everyone-has-the-same-dead-eyed-stare rpg they’ve been making for decades down to the obligatory cowboy town.

the combat looks better than older bethesda games but like….. they didn’t show more than about 90 seconds at a time of unedited gameplay. no vertical slice or “here’s a little sidequest start to finish.” so there’s no sense of what actual gameplay is like.

but none of this matters. starfield will make a billion dollars

I don't know if it's because I'm older, wiser, or just jaded, but this is just another game in the nonstop flood of games that I will never know or care about until it's proven to distinguish itself in some way. Bethesda? Doesn't matter. id? Rockstar? none of that matters. Might as well be McDonalds, just some big money name on some product that will probably be mediocre
