Probably the dumbest action economy rule i see people throwing around in dnd 5e is "thats a bonus action you can't do it as an action. Like bro, fuck off. Im literally using my stronger action to perform a weaker action

Back to my daily having opinions about dnd. The games innate flaws i feel come back to a core of them not deciding what kind of game they wanna be. The original dnd was basically the first roguelike where characters could easily die but you had alot of drive to progress your character as far as possible. This is why you had the dumb stuff like rolling for stats and hit dice mechanics. It was just meant to be a very chaotic sort of meatgrinder.
This is why it feels so dumb to roll for stats in modern dnd thats more focused on you actually putting some stake in your character's continued existence. Classic dnd it didnt really matter as much you had too good or too bad stats because your characters where just fodder for the meatgrinder. Modern dnd you just get your play kind of ruined by your broken character having way to easy or way too difficult of a time doing things because its not as easy to simply swap that character out for a new one
You know i think alot of encounters in dnd suck and arent fun solely because the initiative system just doesnt work. Like all of this prerollings slowing it down lets just get to the combat. Oh shit all 3 of the death knights go before us
Also just sucks when enemies who are very intended to go first go last or vice versa.
Monsters/npcs should just have set initiative so the guys who are supposed to be fast are fast and the guys who are supposed to be slow are slow
