(minimal spoilers for the book piranesi)
actually found some time for pleasure reading this week and whipped through piranesi at the recommendation of my younger sib. i liked it! i can totally see why it popped off. i found it strange that it was characterized as a "puzzle box" book when it really seemed so much more interested in its characters than its mechanics (and i thought that was a good choice overall, fwiw). that said my favorite parts were the scenes of exploration of the house— all the statues looking at the moon was in particular a standout passage for me. the house felt like it totally could've come out of a fromsoft game and now i kinda want that to exist. the house also really reminded me of the big temple in the book "the thief" which i read so many times as a kid and still absolutely adore (if you haven't read the thief, do yourself a favor and DO IT and DO NOT look up any information about it beforehand)
that's my casual review! now to see how far i can get with the priory of the orange tree and the book of ann patchet essays i still need to finish before i gotta switch over to more Business Reading for the podcast i'm workin on
