moving the hole posts

Thanks for coming out tonight, everyone! Stick around the auditorium and we'll have the writers' commentary "Behind the Post" in just a bit.

Yeah, so we actually spent quite a bit of time on this one, didn't we?

Oh yeah. Probably... what, 40, 45 minutes start to finish?

About 40 minutes I'd say, yeah.

And you're probably wondering, like, what do we do in all that time?? Like, 40 minutes to write a shitpost?

That's pretty standard these days, honestly. Post market's got a lot more competitive the past couple years. Gotta really put in the time if you wanna do big numbers here.

Severals, you mean.

Yeah, yeah, severals.

So anyway, we were actually really spoiled for choice on this one. Like, the source material was just—

[The writer makes a "chef's kiss" gesture with their hands.]

—I mean, just imagine all the places we coulda taken this!

Yep. For a long time, we were working on some variations of "this is the 'it is Friday post hole' post hole", or, like, "this whole post is hole post" or something. Trying to see how many of the same word we could fit back to back, pretty much.

Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo.

Exactly.

And then we had the art department come in, they thought maybe they could do something—

God, the fuckin— the darn art department. Sorry! I love art, I mean, it's just— they're always up in our biz—

Always up in our biz!

Anyway, they wanted to pull some crazy shit like, what's the weirdest kind of hole we could add to this thread, and we had to be like— come on, you guys. We can't just tack on a human anus and call it a day.

Yeah. We'd have to tag it as 18+, and you know that's gonna result in a "severals" dropoff, 'cuz people don't always click through on that stuff.

They don't always click through! People talk a big game being horny, but they don't always click through!

Right. So, anyway, we scrapped all that and worked it through from the beginning. Metrics said that a well-timed pun usually performs pretty well on a Friday night, so. You know. We went with that. But it just goes to show you how much goes into this process.

Yeah. Guess you could say we had too many options for jokes. Like— oh! Like I guess you could say... we had a hole lot of humor!

[The audience groans.]
