my best friend (who sadly moved away last month*) and I have this thing we call bedroom coat friends.

basically, when you throw a large enough party as a young person living in a small apartment, you're going to end up with more coats than you have closet space in which to stow them when people arrive. so what do you do? well, some of those coats you can put in your bedroom— but not everyone's! only the people you trust and like enough to be in your private space when they go to retrieve their coat when leaving. these are your bedroom coat friends.

it started out as just a passing turn of phrase, but after a while it became a meaningful shorthand for referring to other people in our lives. bedroom coat friends can be anyone, but invariably they are lovely people. be someone's bedroom coat friend!

*(I am quite devastated about this, but she moved to LA to become a legit TV writer and fulfill her dreams, so I can't be too upset and indeed am also extremely happy for her!!)
