My dearest fellow U.S. citizens,
We find ourselves in time of great unknowns.
Will still the old democracy prevail,
Or shall it give to blood and fascist lies?
The highest stakes are for November fifth—
And yet!— The old ways are no better sought:
For is it not the old who bring to bear
The troubles of both looming future paths?
The left cannot abide by Gaza torn
Asunder with our own United arms,
By president too old for service now—
And let alone in twenty-twenty-eight.
Is it too much to ask for simple things?
For healthcare and transgender rights to live?
For Roe? For racist statues to come down?
For transit, and a world that's not ablaze
Next summer when I leave my house?
Americans, I wish you would yet see
That you deserve good things, and to feel loved.
Begrudgingly I say to vote for blue,
No matter if it's Biden in the run.
But all the same: I wish that change would come.
