tangentially, i'm kind of considering switching my discord account to just be invisible mode, because the online status feels like a slightly more subtle form of read receipt

not even for you specifically. for the general information of the subset of our followers on the whole who have us on dicksword

we honestly have never payed any attention to the status indicator to begin with, & just message ppl whenever no matter what their indicator says and dont expect a response back until they are ready, regardless of what their indicator says.

but we are kinda aware that some ppl do pay attention to it, which is weird to us.

Ve don't try to insist on a response unless it's like, a situation where if coordination isn't clear someone is going to be put into an unpleasant situation. The rest of the time ve tend to send things to people as ve remember or notice the things. for some people ve might be careful about when ve message them like vour mom but that is the exception nai think.

We pay so much attention that we actually had to modify our client to only show online or not online, because we'd get too much social anxiety from seeing someone with a red status (big scary) or yellow status (they're not there).

We value live conversation much more than essentially sending mail back and forth, mainly because our ADHD requires us to engage with a person in real-time in order to be satisfied. Therefore we don't message people who are offline because we prefer to message people who are online and can talk to us live.

I don't know why some people consider it a problem that being online invites others to message you, but going invisible would definitely fix that.

However, if the problem is mainly you popping online instantly when you tap on a mobile notification to read it, you should've always been invisible on mobile~ we do indeed hate that.
